IoT has been a buzz word for last 3 years. Initially, it was because of the optimism that came with the innovation, usability and scalability but soon it got overcasted by the pessimistic clouds of Ially. oT security. The security attacks on IoT devices have increased exponentially. One of the major reason of it, is the set and forgot policy. It means the IoT devices are configured when they are installed and then left alone to fight against all the advanced security attacks. There is no mechanism to keep the firmware of IoT devices up to date.
asvin facilitates a Platform as a Service to distribute over the air firmware updates for IoT devices. It is done efficiently by asvin with its unique and novel solution. asvin solution is powered by distributed and decentralized technologies such a InterPlanetary File System (IPFS) and Distributed Ledger technologies. The asvin platform delivers multiple services for device, firmware and rollout management as shown in the figure below.
In this blog, I am going to touch upon the core components of asvin platform and explain you how to get started with it quickly. The steps are following.
Register an Account
First of all, you need to sign up on asvin’s customer platform. It gives you the control over user, device, firmware, rollout and security management. Go to Customer platform and click on Register new account. In the next page give your email address and click on Register now.
Soon after that, you will receive an email on your registered email address. You need open the email and click on Account activation. In the next page, you have to fill in strong password and click on Reset password. That is all. Now, you can login with your email address and new password to customer platform.

In the sandbox mode, user can get familiar with the interface and features. Login to the customer platform and click on Start sandbox mode from the drop down menu in the top right corner.
User can do device, firmware and rollout management in the sandbox mode. The following sections give more details of these features. Whatever you do in the sandbox will not affect your production environment.
Firmware Management
The customer platform organized firmware files of IoT devices in File group. A user can make multiple file groups to sort out firmware files.
Device Management
In the Devices section, a user can add new devices and organize them in device groups.
Rollout Management
In the rollout section, a user can start rollout for selected device group with selected firmware file.
