AI browsers are often seen as the next major productivity boost. In reality, however, they primarily introduce new attack surfaces right where companies are most vulnerable.

In the latest issue (5/26) of the SME magazine “Impulse,” cybersecurity expert and asvin CEO Mirko Ross warns about the risks of careless use of AI browsers.

Since these tools autonomously access user data resources and incorporate them into their processes, sensitive information can be exposed. What may result in “just” data loss for smaller businesses can quickly escalate in larger mid-sized companies, affecting production or logistics systems and potentially causing operational downtime.

To fully leverage agent-based features, users must grant extensive system permissions, including access to emails, calendars, and payment services.
This effectively turns the browser into a highly privileged target for attackers.

Prompt injection attacks already demonstrate how real this risk is: hidden instructions on websites can manipulate AI agents – potentially leading to the unintended disclosure of sensitive data.
