Understanding the future in order to embed cyber resilience and cyber vigilance in the heart of society.
How and where do new trends in cybercrime emerge, and how can companies, organisations and citizens protect themselves against them in a structured and forward-looking manner?
The Cybercrime 2040 project was launched on 2 October 2025 by the Agency for Innovation in Cybersecurity (Cyberagentur), in which asvin is participating together with three partners. The aim is to develop a knowledge base for cyber risk analysis and to define strategic options for action for a cyber-resilient and cyber-vigilant society.
The project ‘Cybercrime 2040: Technological and Sociocultural Development Paths, Future Scenarios and Strategies for a Resilient Society (CytZuReDen)’ started at the beginning of October and will run for 24 months. The Berlin-based IZT – Institute for Future Studies and Technology Assessment is responsible for overall management, and project partners alongside asvin include the Baden-Württemberg Police University (HfPolBW).
Identify and prevent future new trends in cybercrime.
The tasks of asvin’s cyber risk experts include technical project management for the IZT and assessment of future technologies in cybercrime in an international context. asvin CEO Mirko Ross emphasises the importance of researching and analysing future trends for the protection of European values and local value creation:
“New cyber threats must be identified as medium and long-term trends. This will enable us to lay the foundations for better preparation and resource planning in the prevention of and response to criminal acts and actors in cyberspace. It’s fantastic that this project has now been initiated by the cyber agency! We will also be holding international workshops with experts to identify – and prevent – future new trends in cybercrime.”
Overall, the ‘Cybercrime 2040’ project aims to develop strategic options for action and approaches for a cyber-resilient and cyber-vigilant society in order to effectively overcome cyber-related challenges. The project focuses on the development of a knowledge base that enables stakeholders to identify and evaluate future technological and social developments related to cybercrime.
