With PenTest4CI, asvin and chargeIQ are strengthening the security of charging infrastructures and setting new standards in the field of penetration testing for electric mobility.
Stuttgart, December 15, 2025 – asvin and chargeIQ are launching the PenTest4CI project to strengthen the cybersecurity of the European charging infrastructure for electric vehicles through AI-supported penetration testing and vulnerability assessments. The EU’s CYSSDE program supports the project, which aims to identify security gaps in hardware, protocols, and backend systems and develop practical guidelines for operators.
EU supports cybersecurity in CYSSDE program
PenTest4CI is supported by the EU’s CYSSDE (Cybersecurity Deployment Preparedness Support, Capacity Building and Awareness) program, which helps organizations strengthen their digital resilience. In the second round of calls for proposals for penetration testing, ten projects were selected from more than 130 applications to receive both financial and organizational support for advanced penetration testing and vulnerability analysis in critical and important sectors.
The joint consortium of asvin GmbH and chargeIQ GmbH is among the winners of the EU call for proposals with its PenTest4CI project for securing charging infrastructures in e-mobility.
Objective of PenTest4CI
PenTest4CI focuses on securing the charging infrastructure for electric vehicles as part of critical energy and mobility systems in Europe. The aim is to systematically identify security gaps in charging hardware, communication interfaces, and backend systems through realistic attack simulations.

The findings gained in the project will be translated into practical guidelines and recommendations for action, which are intended to help small and medium-sized enterprises in particular to make their systems more resilient and to implement regulatory requirements efficiently. In this way, PenTest4CI contributes to reducing security risks and strengthening the confidence of operators, partners, and users in the charging infrastructure.
Contribution to regulation and resilience
PenTest4CI supports companies in preparing for key European regulations, such as the NIS2 Directive and the Cyber Resilience Act, which place high demands on risk management and the security of networked products. Through the systematic identification and evaluation of vulnerabilities, organizations gain a solid foundation for targeting technical and organizational protective measures.
At the same time, the project contributes to strengthening European digital sovereignty by building up expertise in penetration testing, cyber risk assessment, and the secure operation of critical infrastructures and bringing it to market. Operators, manufacturers, and service providers thus benefit from practical best practices that help them better detect and defend against cyberattacks.
