AfD emails leaked: Mirko Ross contradicts the party’s account
Around 421,000 emails from the AfD, almost 300 gigabytes in total, appear to have been published on a server following a hack. They reportedly include internal emails from Alice Weidel, Tino Chrupalla and Alexander Gauland. The party is playing the incident down. It confirmed to Tagesspiegel that one of its service providers was hit by a cyberattack last month. According to the party, parts of a few mailboxes were copied, most of which had not been used for years. It says current mailboxes of the federal party were not affected.
AfD emails dating up to this year
Mirko Ross, cybersecurity expert and CEO of asvin, disagrees: “From an initial review, this is by no means old data. The dataset contains emails up to this year.” Even a first search also shows that original emails from the party and parliamentary group leadership are likely to be accessible through email threads involving other people.
The AfD now intends to review the data and will only comment on it afterwards.
