Is AI an opportunity for more security – or rather the opposite?

CEO Mirko Ross was a guest in live interview on Update Wirtschaft, discussing a topic that is currently on many companies’ minds: cybersecurity and artificial intelligence.

Unfortunately, AI offers options in both directions.
On the one hand, it represents a huge opportunity for the software industry and for companies. On the other hand, we are also seeing that attackers, when they use AI, can carry out much more effective attacks.

So how do companies protect themselves against increasingly fast-paced cyberattacks?

If we look at the current situation, software is always a vulnerability. As a rule, companies try to identify and fix these vulnerabilities through cybersecurity measures. But right now – especially over the last three months – we are seeing that AI models are becoming extremely powerful when it comes to identifying vulnerabilities.

For companies, this means: they need to look much more closely at where vulnerabilities exist within their own networks, and how they can quickly patch them through software updates. Two or three years ago, it was still sufficient to fix vulnerabilities within a week. Now this has accelerated to a single day – precisely because attackers are so fast at identifying and exploiting such vulnerabilities in companies.

Companies need to become faster and more efficient.

AI is driving enormous change across the entire software industry. These are huge challenges in every area. Structures need to change, fundamental transformation is required. On top of that, there are the costs: the major providers charge handsomely for their AI models through computing power (tokens). This raises the question of how economically viable these AI systems really are.
