The current cyberattack on Unimed once again highlights how critical speed is in cyber defense – especially in the healthcare sector.

In an SWR interview, cybersecurity expert Mirko Ross clearly identifies the core issue: taking four to six weeks to inform affected patients is far too slow given the dynamics of modern attacks.

During this time, stolen data can already be actively exploited for targeted phishing, identity theft, or extortion. With the use of AI, attackers are further accelerating these processes and significantly increasing the success rate of personalized attacks.

Particularly concerning is the potential depth of the data involved: beyond basic personal information, billing data can also reveal insights into medical treatments. This creates highly sensitive attack scenarios with real-world consequences for those affected.
